Antediluvian Restrictions S/S 2010 by 0312.

Antediluvian Restrictions S/S 2010 is my degree year collection is based on Gothic architectural curves infused with characteristics of restraining jackets and corsets.

taking elements like the style lines from ancient corsets and and the extended sleeves of a restraining jacket, this ready to wear collection is perfect for any individual who is up for a hard-edged look. with tops ranging from a denim jacket to long sleeved jersey shirts and dresses all made out of comfortable jersey fabrics and bottoms consisting of cotton stretch "skinnies" which are panelled following the curves taken from Gothic churches, to a pair braided leggings.

surface treatments like ink splatters were manipulated and put together as prints using a method called image transfer. gradient and sprinkle dyeing are also key players in this collection as worn & aged look was part of the concept. in terms of restrains, i didnt literally take its meaning whole. instead, i mixed bondage like straps with soft jersey fabric to make it look restrictive, yet isnt.

below is a whole spread of close ups of the garments and ive included the look book (catalogue) that i made for this collection.

denim jacket with self made image transfer prints, cut in sleeves and self made piping using dyed denim.

24 asymmetrical paneled cotton stretch pants with back panels highlighted using PVC piping

one pieced hooded jersey braided dress with image transfers

long sleeved jersey braided top with sprinkle dyeing.

16 symmetrical paneled cotton stretch pants with every panel highlighted using PVC piping.

when the inspired, inspire.

I am now, a full fledged fashion designer and if you ask, what inspires me? i say, "life and the people in it." this post is dedicated to 2 designers, who inspired me to bend the rules, rebel and shock the living daylights out of people. im sure some existing fashion designers can relate to me when it comes to being inspired by these two designers. there is so much that i can blog about these 2 amazing individuals but in this post, ive picked specific collections that, well, shocked the living daylights out of me and basically made me a convert.

  All Hail
Alexander Mcqueen & Hussein Chalayan

Alexander Mcqueen

Alexander Mcqueen, aka, "enfant terrible" is the hooligan of English fashion. before the need of vast income to sustain his career, he basically doesnt give a flying crap about what the audiences think. his collections, always made up of intricate details, unconventional materials, romantic-meets-gothic. the images are video stills from the finale of his S/S 1999 collection. a model stood on a rotating platform while two robots take turns spraying her white dress with black and yellow paint. the collection was called "untitled". here, human meets machine, producing the most intriguing and fascinating result.

pls do check out this video and be prepared to choke on your own breath.

this is my and some of my fellow designers fav collection from AMQ. his S/S2001 collection. never short of theatrics, his runway was a glass cube, that when lighted up, revealed to be a mental hospital where models, play the role of patients. with their head covered with headpieces made up of stuffed eagles and puzzles. one word that describes this collection and its aesthetic - surreal. the images above are again, video stills from his s/s2001 collection. this scene is from the finale of the runway. where the cube that is in the middle of the runway opens up its glass walls and letting it shatter into millions of pieces on the floor, revealing a nude, pregnant woman, breathing from a mask which is connected to tubes while moths fly free.

to have your reality blown away into millions of pieces,

pls do check out this other video link ive put up. its another one of his inspiring shows.

Hussein Chalayan

Hussein Chalayan was born in Turkey and moved to London where he studied design. i never knew about his existence untill a fellow designer showed me one of his runway video that left me on the verge of tears. this S/S 07 collection of his, when i watched it, all i could say with my jaw hanging was "oh, my, god."

he made his garments, those pieces of art, move and transform with the help of technology of course. from a 1800s dress into a 1920s flapper dress in a matter of minutes, clothes undo themselves, hemlines shorten and lengthened by itself, sleeves rolled and disappeared. basically this is the fashion version of transformers. no joke.

since this collection, he hasnt stopped incorporating technology into his garments. more things started to move and undo themselves. to me, he is the epitome of an innovator.

one word - Brilliant.

even that is an understatement.

prepare thyself, for you'll never see fashion as a bimbo, ever again.

Vice and Vanity + Meadowlark.

Accessories, here im referring to jewelery. No matter how small, chunky, or bling-ed up, should be a must have for everyone. yes i mean everyone. its compulsory for me and some of my friends to at least wear a piece when we go out or we'll feel extremely "naked". so in this post, im featuring two of my many favs when it comes to, well accessories.

Vice & Vanity

Vice & vanity do stock right here in Singapore thus, very, very accesible. V&V is known for its quirky use of materials like glass, arcrylic and fabric. V&V does mostly necklaces and brooches with occasional bangles, so far no sign of earings.  This is the label you wanna don when you wanna make a statement, seriously. Treat yourself something delicious would ya, now go get one, two or what the heck, maybe three.  You can find pieces from V&V  stocked up at these amazing shops:

Antipodean.
Ztamp.
Blackmarket.

If u wanna draw up a to-buy-list or just wanna treat your eyes to some candy, check out their website www.vicevanity.com

Meadowlark

Now here is another label i just discovered. Meadowlark,a label based in New Zealand. This label intrigued me with its choices of subjects, from serpents, skulls with bows, fangs and swallows. they turn the most disturbing subjects into the most desirable objects of fancy. some of the items like the rings are actually made to order. so its like haute couture for your fingers. u can choose the color of the metal, the color of the stones used. the made to measure rings would take at least 3 weeks to make. now thats special, yo! Sadly, they do not stock here in Singapore. check out their website for more orgasmic-eye-feasting good time. http://www.meadowlark.co.nz

dont. wait.
get. out. there.
